I became an expat at the tender age of 16. I started with an international year abroad in Canada during high school, I continued with completing my University studies in the UK, and I have since chosen a career for myself that requires me to move somewhere else every couple of years. I lived in a variety of countries in Europe, North America, Africa, and Asia so far.
What makes me an expat is that in every and each one of these places, I actively and thoroughly try to make a life for myself, embed in the new country and become part of it to the best of my ability. I do all of this knowing full well that my time in that place will be limited and that no matter what, I am walking towards a very difficult detachment when the time comes.
